Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems to me that by “zoning out” you could also mean “trancing out”, or “passing out”, or something to the effect of generating the intended dream material in the process of falling to sleep. I think this possible and it happens more or less. However, in my opinion it is the intention, the incubation, that needs to permeate through into the deeper areas of the consciousness for this to work. Sometimes it can take weeks, or months, and it usually happens when the different variables that are always at play find a way to balance themselves for a conscious projection, so to say, and always when the intended dream material is for one reason or another –usually when it is about to be turned into a productive cause- ready for you.
